HOW DO I FIND A PERFUME THAT IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Only by actually testing a fragrance on your own skin. For testing it is recommended that you use the less concentrated versions of a fragrance, such as an eau de toilette.
WHAT DOES THE TERM “FRAGRANCE LIFE” MEAN?
Perfume is a mixture of substances with different degrees of volatility. Fresh notes are light and highly volatile know as the top notes. Substances with less volatility produce the bouquet know as the middle notes. Substances with very low volatility and great tenacity produce the foundation, know as the base notes. A good perfume is built very carefully, with the objective that similar-smelling substances will be effective throughout all three phases of the fragrance life.
CONCENTRATION OF FRAGRANCES
Extrait (or perfume) – 15%-30%
Parfum de Toilette or Eau de Parfum 8 – 15%
Eau de Toilette 4 – 8%
Eau de Cologne 3- 5%
Splash Cologne 1 -3%
ARE THERE RULES ON HOW TO USE WHICH PERFUME WHEN?
Yes. A perfume should never be allowed to dominate its surroundings. Less is always more appropriate than more. During the day, lighter fragrances such as eaux de toilette. For evenings, the more concentrated perfume are best.
DOES A PERFUME SMELL DIFFERENTLY ON EACH PERSON WHO WEARS IT?
Yes. Everyone has her/his own individual smell. It depends on the condition of the skin, the life style and particularly the diet.
CAN THE FRAGRANCE OF A PERFUME CHANGE BECAUSE OF SPICY FOOD THAT ITS WEARER MIGHT EAT?
The fragrance of the perfume does change because spicy dishes have an effect on the skin’s exudations and their odour. Consequently, there is also a change in the overall odour-effect, which is a combination of perfume and skin odour.
WHERE AND HOW SHOULD YOU APPLY PERFUME?
Traditionally a drop behind the ears. Perfume is most effective where the skin is especially warm and there is a good circulation of blood. Behind the ear, the wrist and the bend of the arm are excellent places for perfume. Freshly washed hair is also a good fragrance carrier.
ARE THERE EROTIC PERFUMES?
Basically not, at least not in the sense of a direct action aphrodisiac. We all know the pleasant scent of an attractive person of the opposite sex is definitely erotic, no matter which perfume he or she happens to be using.
WHAT IS A GOOD PERFUME?
A perfume is good if it gives the wearer a sense of well-being, and if it is acceptable to people around her. The fragrance must unfold, evenly and harmoniously, from the prelude of the top note, through the middle note, to the foundation without losing cohesion. In addition, the user should look for good tenacity, staying power.
DOES PERFUME LEAVE STAINS ON CLOTHING?
In most cases no. This is because the vast majority of ingredients evaporates without leaving a trace. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to spray perfume onto a white silk blouse. Discolouration can occur when the perfume is too old or dark.
HOW CAN YOU TELL IF A PERFUME HAS SPOILED?
A perfume has deteriorated when its colour has drastically changed, it thickens and has a sour smell.
HOW LONG DOES PERFUME KEEP?
Around six months, usually longer, if stored correctly. The ideal storage conditions are in darkness, at room temperature.
WHY IS IT THAT ONE IS NO LONGER AWARE OF ONE’S PERFUME AFTER WEARING IT FOR A WHILE?
Our sense of smell quickly becomes fatigued. After a period of smelling your own perfume, you become used to it and it seems to disappear. But to the by-stander, it can still seem very strong.
